This CD from The Pretenders is a step up from The Singles in that it moves from the albums after Get Close and up to Viva el Amor!. You get a bonus cut in "State Of Independence" (not necessarily a plus) and better sound. Nineteen songs in all, from the cool fire of "Brass In Pocket" to their best rocker, "Middle of The Road," the actual bonuses are "Human" (a remix from the "Viva" CD and a shoulda-been hit) and "I'll Stand By You" from Last of the Independents.

This is actually a good Pretenders compilation, my one complaint would be that they didn't include "My City Was Gone", that seems like a necessary track. That aside, this compilation gathers together most of the hits and a few rarities, as well. Probably best for casual fans, or if you are just getting into The Pretenders, it's a good start.

After hearing a radio show on the Pretenders I realized the huge hole in my music library caused by having no album from this prolific band. I signed in to Amazon and spent much of the evening listening to samples and reading reviews of each album. I ordered this album even though many music snobs stated that doing so is selling out to the punk roots of the Pretenders; I respectfully disagree. What this album does is serve as an exemplar of the many stages that this great band has gone through during ...

I really don't listen to a lot of my favorite bands from the '80s so much nowadays but one of the few bands from my adolescent that I still listen to is The Pretenders. Their music is a melodic mix of pop and punk. Chrissie Hyndes still sounds as good now as she did when I first heard her as a child. I personally think the band's GREATEST HITS cd is very good even if they didn't include one of my favorite songs "Revolution". I definitely think that GREATEST HITS is vastly superior over the band's singles ...

I don't know why but when I think of Chrissie Hynde, I am reminded of Robert Plant. Led Zep plucked Robert out of some obscure English countryside village and blasted him off to Rock and Roll nobility. He had the look and he could dish it out. That's exactly why Chrissie brings up Robert Plant to me and vice versa. Chrissie was admitedly in some minor Ohio suburban laundromat watching the machine spin in it's monotonous cadence but she did have the look and when you buy this cd, The Pretenders Greatest Hits, ...
