Editorial Review:Amazon.com:Based on the
Angelina books (written by Katharine Holabird with illustrations by Helen Craig), these four episodes tout the power of practice, common sense, an open mind, and perseverance. In "The Lucky Penny," Angelina decides there's no need to practice for an important audition after finding a lucky penny--unfortunately, she loses the penny the night before the big audition. Angelina and Henry get lost looking for Grandpa's lost war medal and fear the attack of a mythical cat in "The Legend of Big Paw," and Angelina learns the folly of prejudging a fellow mouse in "Angelina and Anya." Finally, Alice must overcome her fear of the balance beam to win an important gymnastics competition in "The Gymnastics Championship." Two "Little Stars" segments stress the importance of practice and feature real-life girls and boys studying ballet and folk dancing. (Ages 3 to 7)

Description:When Angelina finds a lucky penny, she decides she doesn't need to practice for an important audition. But when she loses the penny, she realizes that practice makes perfect after all. With Angelina's support, Alice enters a gymnastics championship and learns to persevere as she overcomes her fear of the balance beam. Angelina also lends a helping hand to her new friend, Anya, a harvest mouse who is down on her luck, and to her grandpa as she searches for his lost war medal. It's a lucky day for everyone in Angelina Ballerina: The Lucky Penny!

Charming DVD for a child. I purchased it for a two-year old girl who likes to watch DVDs, especially when mom is busy at dinner time. Of course, we always try to select something suitable. The stories are age appropriate. She requests this DVD often. It may even interest her in dancing lessons which was my primary reason for this selection.

My daughter (4) love the Angelina shows. I find her-Angelina-a bit whiney and conniving. They all seem a bit melodramatic, but as I say, mine loves it. The only problem I really have with the DVD is the lack of menu: the disc just starts up with the trailers-including Barney (ugh)-and on to the shows. A small thing but disorienting. Even I can make a DVD with a menu.
