Editorial Review:

Album Description:
What is there to say about CHILDREN OF BODOM that hasn't been said yet? In the last six or so years, the band that darted to international fame with their debut, 1997's Something Wild, has gone from being "this amazing band from Finland" to a household name in the Int'l metal scene. Their home country of Finland has been a fantastic breeding ground for metal music for years now.

After recording Follow The Reaper at Peter TÃĪgtgren's infamous Abyss Studio, the band decided to return to the loving arms of a long-time associate, Anssi "Viiksi" Kippo, and the bowels of Astia Studio. The result is nothing short of breathtaking! Not only has the band taken their songwriting to new levels of aggression and heaviness, but also the way the songs are presented literally pummels everything they have done into a pile of smoldering dust, making sure the path of destruction is complete. The time is now - JOIN THE HATE CREW! -1st new album in almost three years! Massive anticipation amongst the international metal community. -Fourth full-length from one of metal's leading acts. -CHILRDEN OF BODOM has received platinum single and gold album awards in their native Finland. -Produced by Peter Tagtgren (Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Hypocrisy, Marduk) at the famed Abyss Studios in Sweden.

Album Description:
The original masters of Finnish black metal return with their fourth album. Nine tracks. Century Media. 2003.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Children of Bodom puts Finland on the map
If COB struggle with anything, it's putting absolutely cheesy names on songs and album titles. Beyond that, Hate Crew Deathroll will blow your mind away. Alexi Laiho is next to brilliant, putting together raw, complex and unique songs that are the mark of a gifted musician.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great album from one of the two death metal bands I actually enjoy
Back in June I had tuned into a metal station when "Bodom Beach Terror" had played. I went "Who is this?" and soon found out it was Children of Bodom. Normally I hate death metal, but when I went to the mall later thad day I had stopped in HMV and saw this album on the shelf, so I decided to pick it up. This is a great album!!! I was thinking it was going to be some typical Death Metal album with tuneless guitars and cookie monster vocals, but no, this is MELODIC Death Metal with actual lyrics and ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - "Adrenaline-Fueled Metal Destruction"
Children Of Bodom are an interesting stylistic hybrid-one which borrows heavily from many of the guitar-driven, shred-happy bands of the '80s thrash movement (Megadeth, Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen) pays homage to the early NWOBHB (Sabbath, Iron Maiden) and incorporates elements of the newer melodic power and metalcore scene (Soilwork, Killswitch Engage, etc.) to build a fast, flashy, and brutal machine.

A violent, churning maelstrom of Finnish vitriolic aggression, COB are a bit much ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - COB when they're pissed.
Wow. This is a huge turn in direction from Follow The Reaper. However, this is a good thing, as it shows the band growing. While FTR's lyrics were more about death and mystery, HCDR has more personal lyrics. But when I say personal, I don't mean emo at all. HCDR is a lot heavier and thrashier than COB's previous efforts, which is goof as they're exploring their boundaries, and it's still quite melodic.

Needled 24/7 is a very agressive and addicting opener, and probably my favorite song ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This is good but FOLLOW THE REAPER is better
This was my first Bodom album. I immediately liked the music. But I didn't dig the singing. I came around I love it. They are all extremely good at their instruments. No weak links. I personally think the best song is ''Angels Don't Kill''. They are also extremely good live. I got to see them, incredible. Alexi Laiho is probably the best guitar player to emerge in the last 10 years. However as the title said. I think Follow the reaper is a tad better.
