- Does the trick - a must have accessoryA little pricy but you gotta have it if you have the Canon f1.4 lens. It reverses on the lens for compact packing in your bag. These hoods aren't as needed for low light conditions obviously but I use it all the time if for nothing else but to add some protection to the front of this little lens.

- Fits the lens wellI was considering a third party lens hood for about half the price for my Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. After reading some of the reviews stating that the third party hoods sometimes are either too tight or too loose I purchased this Canon ES71II and have no complaints about it. It fits the lens very well - not too tight not too loose. Maybe a bit on the tighter side, but it's not a problem.

- simple, effectiveworks fine. wish it were made out of metal though. the plastic feels a little cheap. the inside of the hood is coated with a nice matte fuzzy material to avoid reflecting light; a really nice touch.

- As vital a protective accessory as a wide brim hat on a sunny dayThe 50mm f/1.4's front element is already deeply recessed which is most likely why the lens is more flare resistant than other 50mm lenses. This O.E.M. hood is the only well-fitting accessory necessary to 'complete' this lens. Since I don't like to reverse the hood during storage, removing the 58mm lens cap is tricky with my large thumb and index finger.

- Necessary accessory for 50 f1.4 lensThis Canon lens is well fitted to the 50 1.4. The interior has a matte surface and stops reflections. While it may seem expensive, I found the off-brand lens hoods often don't fit right, and one I bought let light in on the sides! Definitely not worth even half the price of the Canon. The hood protects your valuable lens from damage as well as blocking that light and ruining your pictures and they pretty well last the lifetime of the lens.
