Editorial Review:

Description:
The R30 Deluxe Edition 2 DVD & 2 CD set features Rush's Frankfurt, Germany concert in September 2004 near the close of their 30th Anniversary World Tour.

The performance was captured with 14 cameras in high definition and is presented in 16:9 widescreen format. Audio options include Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound or PCM Stereo. Songs include the exclusive "R30 Overture" (an instrumental medley of "Finding My Way," "Anthem," "Bastille Day," "A Passage To Bangkok," "Cygnus X-1," and "Hemispheres), "Xanadu," "Subdivisions," "Red Barchetta," "Summertime Blues" (from last year's covers EP Feedback), and the "vault" track "Between The Wheels" which hasn't been performed live in 20 years. The 2 CD soundtrack is not available separately.

Bonus features include rare and classic performance footage from the late '70s to the Canadian Tsunami Relief Benefit earlier this year along with interviews from throughout the band's career.

Also contains two limited edition Rush guitar picks and souvenir backstage pass.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome as ever
Talk about three musicians who play all that the instruments can give! Getty Lee has got to be the most adept bassist ever; he plays it like a guitar, not a thump-thump background only instrument. Liveson is one of the most underated rock guitarists. His versatility is amazing. Peart, god, what to say about THE best drummer ever. And it all goes together, the actual play of three (and more when keyboard comes in) instruments along with vocals which explain the music, while the music returns ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This deluxe set is comprehensive!
Rush: R30 special edition - I listened to a lot of Rush between the ages of 12 and 17. In real time terms, that meant the "Moving Pictures," "Signals," "Grace Under Pressure," and "Power Windows" albums. Of course, I also listened to the local classic rock station, which meant that I heard all of the albums before that as well, including Side A of "2112 many many many times. And since those days I can count the number of Rush fans I have met on one hand. Having gone many years without paying them ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - From the Vaults
Some great footage of early Rush from Fly by Night, Farewell to Kings - but I'm pretty sure it's dubbed, though the dubbing is high quality, i.e. you might not know it's dubbed unless you knew the original album material well. "Circumstances" isn't dubbed I don't think, nor was the recent re-make of Closer to the Heart.. Geddy was straining to hit some of those high notes, but you could see awe in the eyes of some of the guest stars playing with them when Alex goes into his solo.. he never sounded ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - AND you get guitar picks
In a popular mood, Rush has been releasing live albums following each tour over the last 10 years, something a lot of bands seem to do (if they're almost unsure of whether they'll continue).

Cynics might deride the appearance of yet another double-live album in April 2008 (from the Snake's & Arrows tour of '07), but they need not buy the material, then. This is a deluxe edition of the R30 tour that went around in '04, featuring plenty of classics plus tracks from the cover album they released ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My only complaint...
...is that it's almost "too perfect". Amazing production. Even my wife really enjoyed watching it, and she's the first to roll her eyes when I start air drumming to Rush music in the car.
