LaCie, pronounced LAH-SEE, French for The Company. I have an iMac desktop with Tiger 10.4.11 and this is my first experience with any LaCie external drive or any Lightscribe labeling and I like them both..... Well- great product design, connectivity to MAC. However, the LaCie doesn't interface with the iLife suite to use the 'snazzy' iDVD software. VERY disappointed to that end.
Otherwise product quickly and easily burns cds and dvds of photos.

I purchased this optical drive because I had been using the "slot loading" drive in my macbook pro quite a bit and I wanted to prolong its life by using an external drive while at home. The firewire 400 version of this drive is fast and it has read a couple of DVDs that my internal drive would just spit out. I spent a good 8 hours trying to get this running on a 2 month old Macbook running OS 10.5.4 with 2GB memory. DVD's played from drive and the burning software opened, but I could not get software to locate the drive to burn anything. I downloaded software updates from website, but still no go. Contacted LaCie support via email who responded same day with a list of three updates to download in a specific order, re-booting after first but not second, etc....If that didn't work, which it didn't, they ... I recently purchased a MacBook and was looking for a proper dvd burner for it and this is it. Fire wire.... 20X might as well say 200X because it is super fast.. burns a 4 gig dvd in about 10 minutes.. CD in about 1 min or less... If you burn alot of DVD's or CD's this is a must have for Mac owners....
