Most online reviews I saw were really high.
I really beg to differ. Nokia 500's BT is awful. It failed to acknowledge 4 different phones. They found it, but Nokia rejected them all. I downloaded (or thought so) maps from SD card to unit's memory. Once I tried to insert another card with MP3s, unit became unusable - maps remained accessible from original card only. Great. Really great.
Battery life is dreadful. It drops 50% within first 30 min of use & to make things worse ...

I bought a Garmin, a mio 310, and a TOMTOM 720.
Try this. Map out IKEA or Department of Motor Vehicles.

Used it for 3 days. Hard to enter address to navigate to. Once that is accomplished, navigation itself is acceptable. I think I will keep it.

There was no product registration paperwork. The RF Modulator doesn't work near as well as a $12 one from Radio Shack. If the engine is off and the GPS is by the antenna, you can hear the music if the volume is as high as it goes. It wwould not let me put in 14th Ave in Fargo, ND. It woud make it 1412th Ave as soon as I put in the 14. The guidance voice could hardly be heard if in traffic, when the there was no radio or talking.
