Based on James Michener's panoramic bestseller about the settling of the American West--as reflected in the history of a fictional town called Centennial, Colorado--the story begins in the late 18th century and ends with a typical 20th century conflict over land usage. Centennial, however, largely concentrates on various memorable frontiersmen, trappers, Indians, ranchers, cowboys, and farmers from long ago. Richard Chamberlain shines as the pioneer Alexander McKeag, Robert Conrad does some of his best work as French-Canadian Pasquinel, and performances by Alex Karras, Chad Everett, Sally Kellerman, Raymond Burr, Richard Crenna, David Janssen, and Dennis Weaver effectively add to a tapestry of adventure, tragedy, violence, and dubious Western progress. - Dream Come TrueI first saw this series while living in Japan as a child. Ever since, I dreamed of living on a ranch. I loved the book also, which I read after watching the series. I'll always remember the Crown V fondly, especially now that I've married into a cattle ranching family. :)
This is an excellent series for children over the age 10. There's enough adventure for all ages. The characters through the decades resonate throughout the whole series. It makes me want to read the book again. ... Read More

- centennialI enjoyed watching the series and it has been a long time since I've seen it, but it seemed like some scenes were left out. For instance when Jacque Pasquenel was a small child he was cut on the face in a fight scene at a rendevous. That was when part of his hatred began and explained alot of his later behavior. I don't remember seeing it in my new series and I know it was in the original. I was glad to be able to finally get this movie back again though. Thanks Valerie Fitzgerald
