DVD : Sliders - Third Season

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Sliders third Season
Sliders was a great Sci-Fi show. The catalyst or culmination of various shows seen in most households. Charmed, Buffy, Star Trek or Quantum Leap can all claim to have a say in the making of this delightful series. The failure with this third series is the collapse of the essence in sci-fi; its cast. When you change cast, those replacing must be wittier, better and stronger as a character, unfortunately in season 3 we find that this is not the case. Still there are some very good episodes within the set. The Guardian, Exodus and Season's Greedings are some of the best episodes by far and would have been deserving of the quality of Seasons 1 and 2. However that is it as far as I am concerned, Seasons 4 and 5 are of no interest and the acting leaves much to be desired but as far as this DVD is concerned, I would say it is worth purchasing if only to complete your Sliders collection.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sliders - Good SciFi Series
I'm enjoying the Sliders SciFi series tremendously. I could not find this item in retail stores. Thank you Amazon.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sliders season three delivers
Being a fan of sliders, I ordered this dvd set and got what I asked for. The set came in great condition, and I enjoyed watching every bit of it. Some of my favourite episodes are in this boxset, the boxset was awesome just as I remember this series to be. If your a fan of sliders, this is definately worth the money.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Good show in a crap package.
The title pretty much sums it up. Sliders is an excellent program. The episodes are inventive, the characters are likeable, and the acting is usually very good. However, this is a review for the DVD set, not for the program itself, and, while the program is highly entertaining and one of my favourites, the DVD set is, quite possibly, the worst that I own.

The four double-sided discs come in a floppy plastic package. There is no episode list in the packaging, unlike most other DVD sets that include one to help you keep your place, and very little liner material. That which is provided is adhered lightly to the box with dry glue. The fact that the discs are double-sided makes them more fragile and prone to being scratched as there is no 'safe' side to touch. The flimsy plastic of the cases is difficult to hold open and provides little protection. Furthermore, the discs are stacked on top of each other, so you often have to pick up one to get at the one beneath it, increasing the opportunity for damaging the disc. I can barely imagine a more irritating package design. An empty box with DVDs in protective CD sleeves would be more convenient.

There are also few extras included, and you have to watch the Universal logo animation over and over and over. Clearly, this package was put out to convince us to buy more, which isn't likely to happen if they don't improve the materials. It's sad that such a terrific show wound up being so mistreated.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The last of the (somewhat) original cast
I was a huge fan of Sliders. Especially seasons 1 and 2, but then the network got it's hands on the show and changed its premise. It was no longer a show about alternate histories on alternate earths, but more so a "monster of the week" type show. Fox was trying to change it to a more x-files like premise. That ruined the show entirely. This season still had a few winners in it, but it was still sorely lacking. Also with Ryes-Davies leaving the show it left a big hole in the cast. Jerry's brother Charlie was okay, but that added a new (probably network thought up) twist that "Cueball" wasn't even from "our" earth, but another alternate earth and didn't really invent sliding at all. It was something ingrained in him as his world had already discovered it.
Season 4 was also just okay (this time Lloyd replaced by Kari)and season 5 was a total let down although I didn't like the way they left such an open ending. I am going to buy all the seasons, being a true fan. But if you just want the good shows, I would probably stop with this season.
