- love is contagiousEvery time i walk through a museum, Sister Wendy comes with me. She has the sort of passionate insight into great art that totally transforms the way you look at paintings. She doesn't just communicate what makes a painting work, she does so in a way that sharpens your eye and allows you to come to each new work with the same spirit of respect and love. And don't let the nun's habit fool you - as an art critic, Sister Wendy is very grounded in the visceral realities behind each work. When she says Caravaggio's soldiers look like "rent boys," when she points out a model's "lovely, fluffy" pubic hair, you know you are in the presence of greatness.

- Evocative and InterestingAs evocative and as interesting as I remembered it from BBC TV. For those who are interested in the CC subtitles, which was my case: this option does not appear in the DVD menu and they must be turned on via television settings which my television doesn't seem to allow me to do.

- Wonderfully captivating! Sister Wendy defines the art work of the many great masters in interesting details. Her explanations shed light on why they are the masters, instead of just artists with beautiful talents. The DVDs are like an Art Appreciation college course but with facts you'll enjoy remembering. This documentary/educational DVD is captivating!
She also has a funny way of discussing "explicit" details with such an innocence. Sister Wendy is a hoot!

- A Wonderful CollectionI thoroughly enjoyed Sister Wendy's book. It's a great collection of great art, and well described for a non-artist like me.
Also, if you like black-and-white engravings from the 19th century, check out "A Celebration of Humanism and Freethought." Although it contains many quotations from the Humanist perspective, it is full of wonderful rare engravings. It's an art book that has been overlooked because of it's title.
