Rating: - Lovely of course but not an unalloyed joy
Well, unsurprisingly, it's brilliant. Frustrating and hence hard to listen to but brilliant. Alone out of everyone on the planet, I get the feeling Perry's voice in the end brought him no joy at all. He seems to find some satisfaction in the joy it brings others, but singing itself appears to have been just a miserable experience for him, which makes listening to this bittersweet to say the least; it's most enjoyable to watch people who share their miracles with joy, not pain. It's hard to watch someone bleed on stage; this makes his earlier work a lot easier to enjoy when doing so doesn't feel like schadenfreude.
It's a marvelous CD, worth ten stars much less five, but for such a miraculous voice to have generated only two collections of solo work in its lifetime and spent the rest of its career releasing retreads and the very occasional ancient demo is an appalling loss. I know I've used the word twice so far, but I don't use it lightly: along with Titta Ruffo and Marian Anderson, Perry's voice truly was one of the 20th century's three miracles, and it's an absolute tragedy that it was placed in the throat of a man who could apparently only be happy when not performing.
Nevertheless, it is worth buying, even simply for the very old, surprisingly wonderful unreleased work; this is one of the greats, after all. But it's not an unalloyed joy, by any means.
Rating: - So Much Better
This CD was so much better than I thought it would be. There is variety in the types of songs and shows how his work has evolved over the years. Steve Perry has explained some of the background for the groups of songs, giving more reasoning into why those were chosen. I actually enjoyed the songs that had never before been released more than some of the "greatest hits." If someone wants to buy one Steve Perry CD, this is the one to buy.
Rating: - steve perry long awaited to hear from again
Steve Perry. That voice that goes deep down into your heart and changes you with each and every note. He's such a powerful singer. I have followed him for years. When he does those looooooonnnnnggg (long) notes no other singer comes close. He makes it sound so easy. Keep on singing STEVE PLEASE!!!
Rating: - Good songs, but...
Steve has had some good solo hits but none on the level of his hits with Journey. I don't know him personally, but his actions make him look like a prima donna. He came out and said that "he never felt like part of the band" but he was the one that went solo and basically forced Ross Valory and Steve Smith out of the group. He also changed the scarab theme and proposed name "Freedom" to that goofy "Raised on Radio" album. Sorry Steve, but you could have had it made if your ego hadn't gotten in the way (see Dennis DeYoung).

It's too bad steve perry isn't with Journey anymore, because with him he rocked, this album is so so!
