- A whole other level of dramatic storytellingThe Complete Fifth Season of the superb cop drama "The Shield" shows how great a collection of cast, writers, producers and crew a film needs in order to be able to stay fresh, interesting and entertaining.
The usual drama within the Strike Team takes new heights as the actions by those members eventually starts falling back towards them, and it is Vic Mackey (Mike Chiklis) who ups the degree of intensity by continuing to promote the internal camaraderie within his men, while at the same time figuring out how to save them from the ultimate doom of being prosecuted by the very law they are sworn to uphold. Vic's continues to backpedal with impossible odds bearing down on him, but never loses his edge, and it is this trait that makes Vic Mackey one of the most interesting "TV" cops of the past several years.
Forest Whitaker is a shining star in this season, giving a tenacious and aggressive portrayal of Internal Affairs Department Lt. Jon Kavanaugh, a man who seems to be the final bolt to slowly twist down and eventually stop Vic and his crew. Excellent stories abound throughout the Sixth Season, with a good ongoing flow from past events and a few new surprises thrown in. With the casting, style of filming and storytelling that is shown here, The Shield is a classic in the making.

- Best Show on TelevisionWow is all I have to say about 'The Shield'. Along with 'Rescue Me', these are the two best shows on television and I think 'The Shield' is the best. FX really has done a nice job with their television programming. It's easily the best on TV right now. I strongly recommend this DVD. I am new to purchasing on Amazon, but if you watch this show and 'Rescue Me', you won't be disappointed.
The Shield brings so much chaotic energy it actually creates anxiety in each and every episode. You really feel as if you're entrenched in Vic's world of chaos. He is constantly being challenged at all ends and Forrest Whitaker only added to the layers of drama we enjoyed from tens of professional actors. This is a flawless series that has yet to run out of gas. With the energy each episode brings, I hope it will not flatten out and inevitably become too ordinary. This is the best show on television. Enjoy every episode.
