Rating: - Brilliant, as expected
Series 5 of The Shield is blistering. If you have been following The Shield since its inception, you will have wondered how it could top the last couple of seasons, which have left me, for one, breathless at times. This show is bravura television.
The Strike Team are under intense pressure from Internal Affairs (and a brilliant and detestable Forest Whitaker.) The writing, direction and acting are top-notch, each episode just cranks up the pressure further until each exposive denouement, leading to increasing tension as the series goes on. Michael Chiklis, now a series executive producer and occasional director, leads the way and excels in every scene. This series will be missed when it's gone. It's up there with The Sopranos - you know it has to finish, and it won't be good, but God, is it exciting to watch.
Rating: - gripping series
i was blown away by the first season of the shield and i continue to be blown away by the subsequent seasons. The smart thing the producers did, was to always inject a new element into the shield team, to mix things up, like glenn close as the new boss in the fourth season, and now its forest whittaker acting as the cop who investigates vic mckay. The tension is unbearable, the pacing is swift the lines are wicked, the entertainment value is undeniable. its must watch tv, just like THE UNIT, and THE WIRE. Thrilling tv.

This was one of the best seasons ever, and we bought it for a great price.
Rating: - The Shield: Season 5
This is a great Series from FX. I've been watching The Shield since the very first episode aired on TV and I've not missed an episode yet. I currently own all 5 seasons of The Shield on DVD and I can't wait for season Six! This show is a great cop show with great stories; it's very intense. Each episode ending leaves you wanting more and more. I would watch this show on TV even if it was a 3 hour show each week.
Just one last important thing to say about The Shield: IF you're going to watch this show, you need to start from the very beginning and watch it IN ORDER, from start to finish. If you watch the show out of sequence, a lot of things won't make sense. This whole show is tied together through out the different seasons and you have to know the characters and know what has happened in past shows for other shows to make sense and go together. This is not a show you can just kind of jump in to in the middle of any season. Start with episode 1 and watch in the correct sequence. You'll be glad you did.
Rating: - Is this really necessary?
I'm just asking this question because I think that, by now, everybody knows about The Shield! But for those who still don't, here goes. With Vic Mackey's strike team leading the way (in sorts), the Farmington police bunch have taken the TV series world by storm. You're bored by all these equally worn-out cop shows from the 70's to the 90's era? Well then, you're almost in the right place. Not entirely though, because you should start off by buying seasons 1 to 4 of this show. Come on, don't even hesitate a second, I'll wait here! ...
So, now, are you done? Fine then, here's why you'll keep your The Shield shopping spree going. It's very simple. After you'll have watched the first four seasons, you'll think the show has been dried of any possible idea to pursue for a new season. But then, comes season 5 - Glenn Close's out, yes, but Forest Whitaker joins the show - and it blows you off your chair for good.
Long review short, this season 5 may only be 11 episodes long, but it'll still be enough to surprise you again and keep you hooked up to The Shield for another couple of years - coïncidentally matching the number of seasons left on the show after this one!
Enjoy.
