Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good Modern Dummy/Slasher Film
Interestingly, it seems Dead Silence borrowed a few ideas from an ultra low budget movie called "The Dummy" The Dummy (Bloody Anniversary) made in 1995 by an independent horror company.

I love killer dummy movies so naturally I hunt all of them down and I figure the producers of Dead Silence obviously did their research on other dummy slasher movies when I noticed several similarities with "The Dummy" (certain things that happen in the movie and camera shots that were almost identical in a few spots).

Overall, Dead Silence was much better than I expected. The lighting and atmosphere really work with this movie. I am an advocate of proper lighting in a horror film as I believe it is an essential element that needs to be handled carefully, and Dead Silence does this very nicely.

The gloomy tone of the movie along with the authenticly antiquoe-looking ventriloquist dummies give this movie a very creepy feel.

Most of the killer dummy films I have seen are ultra low budget movies where the producers have to use their imagination to cover for lack of money and while it works, Dead Silence does not have to try so hard because this is a modern bigger budget production with a slick, polished look.

The story is also effective and entertaining so if you like killer dummy films, this one is a step up from the rest.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Whatever to the bad reviews. This movie delivers!
This movie, although many hard reviews, is a one of a kind. It has an original story line (a great one at that) and the movie creates a mysterious atmosphere throughout the whole piece. I love it that the writers from saw decided to step out and create a piece of their own. It was a pretty great movie. The movie isn't all blood and gore. But there's alot in it. The one thing I didn't like about this movie, was the ending. It made sence in a way, but not in a 100% clear way. I'd say rent this, since there are so many mixed feelings on it. Rent it before you buy it, but it's a really really good movie.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Dead Silence Unrated
This is 1 of 2 of the scariest movies that I have seen in my natural life. It is only rival to a movie that I saw at summer camp in the mid 70's about a young woman who mysteriously died and came back from the dead possessed by something evil that left a look on her face that still is on my mind 20 plus years later. This movie is not for young people to see alone, and even with other people, they still may not want to be in the house alone. It is worthy of the 5 stars and then some. I am glad there is a movie director who knows what a horror movie truly is.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Some Reviewers Must Live For Gore ! Why !!
Once again i must criticise the amount of people who mark a film down because it does'nt have loads of gore - what happened to liking a film because it has a story , is well acted , is not slow paced , thrills & has a decent twist at the end - THIS FILM HAS ALL THESE ELEMENTS - Good late night entertainment - don't be put off by any bad reviews on here - you won't be disappointed if you like a good old style horror / thriller.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Quite good supernatural thriller!
Jamie Ashen (Ryan Kwanten) received a special ventriloquist doll mysteriously and his wife has been murdered, he believes the doll belongs to a famous ventriloquist named Mary Shaw a celebrity in the town of Ravens Fair. He takes the dummy with him and joins with an investigative detective (Donnie Wahlberg) as they go to Ravens Fair to investigate the mysterious murders that have been happening especially involving dolls as he discovers that the town is haunted by the evil spirit of Mary Shaw (Judith Roberts) and her demonic dolls.

Refreshing and different horror thriller from James Wan and Leigh Whannell the makers of "Saw" that offers actual scares rather then gore abound. It's a supernatural fable with an interesting story, decent acting, a nice twisted ending and dark atmosphere that help makes this an exciting and enjoyable ghost story, i'm sure that people that want story and supernatural scares rather then just gore will find this movie a nice change of pace.

This DVD contains the unrated version with some violence and scenes not shown in the theatrical version with nice extras like alternate ending & opening seuqneces, deleted scenes, Behind The Scenes of "Dead Silence", "Mary Shaw's secrets" featurette, "Evolution of a visual FX" featurette and Music Video.

Also recommended: "The Shining", "Tourist Trap", "Magic", "Devil Doll (1964)", "Trilogy of Terror", "Dolls (1987)", "Puppet Master", "Child's Play Series", "Saw Trilogy", "The Others", "Making Contact (a.k.a. Joey)", "Silent Hill", "The Ring (2002 and Japanese version)", "Ju-On: The Grudge", "Scarcrows", "A Nightmare on Elm Street", "Poltergeist" and "Dead of Night (1945)".
