Be warned, the Halo special edition also has the three red lights of death problem!
Purchased this for my son for christmas 07, thought I read it was a new chipset so didnt have the thermal problem. I dont know if the three lights of death problem is the thermal issue or a different problem, but the second day of use the unit wouldn't power on. Three red lights in a circle blinking. Power cycled it a dozen times to no avail. Unplugged the cord, waited, replugged, nothing. Then about 15 minutes later my son tried it and it did power on, very bizarre.
So I'm keeping it plugged in and forbid my son to power the unit off at all costs! I expect the thing will have more problems, but it seems to be working at the moment.
Halo 3 was incredible by the way, a shame the game system has such lousy reliability issues. After a year, one would think it would have been sorted out. Microsoft as a hardware company is a major failure.

- Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition ConsoleI always wanted an Xbox 360 ever since it came out and when Microsoft released info on the Halo 3 Special Edition Console, complete with 'upgraded' features, I knew I had to have it.
As pictured, straight out of the box, it looks awesome! The color is an exact match to the Legendary Helmet Disc Set as well and compliment each other well. The matching headset and controller, make this a very 'must-have' package, especially with the hardcore Halo fans!
Two things I'd recommend purchasing and upgrading with this console though, is a 120 GB HD, and a Pelican cooler fan. The 20 GB HD works well with a few games but if you're a hardcore gamer, you'll need the extra disk space. :) Also, with the amount of heat this console puts out, especially with Halo 3, the Pelican is a smart 'cool' add-on.
In short, a great purchase and one of the better consoles to have, in my personal opinion. Have fun and have a Merry Christmas!

- GET IT!I cannot give this system enough compliments! I waited years to get an xbox360 ,mainly because of the wide spread problems. This halo edition is the best Microsoft has to offer at this time. Basically from all Ive heard you want a 360 with HDMI and the lot # to be 734 and up. That has the newest chipset and so far hasnt had any technical issues.
Best games on the market.........gourgeous graphics, sound etc. I cant complain at all. Mine dosent even get that hot. I know the first generation 360s sure did.
If you are an [...] buyer......the disc drive is a little loud. This dosent bother me in anyway but like I said if youre [...], it might bother you.
